Morning Worship
-
The Call to Worship is a reading from the Scriptures calling God's people to worship Him.
-
The Lord's people respond to God's word with adoration and praise. This is often a traditional hymn from our hymnal with musical accompaniment from our pianist.
-
A prayer asking God to meet with His people, seeking the leadership of Christ the King as the head of his church, and asking for the movement of the Soly Spirit upon and within the people of God.
-
The profession of faith is often a historic creed, or sound reformed catechism question, which the congregation reads together as a public statement of what we, as Christ's people, believe.
-
The Lord's holiness exposes our sinfulness. In response, the people of God confess their sins publicly with a corporate confession read aloud together, or silently in prayer.
-
The Lord speaks from His Word in assurance that we are forgiven because of His faithfulness and Christ’s atoning work on the cross.
-
The ARP has an old and rich history. One part of this history and heritage is the use and reliance of the church upon the Psalms in worship. We sing most often from the Bible Song Book (affectionately "the green book") which is much like a Psalter as the hymns and songs are all either directly taken or adapted from the Psalms of Scripture.
-
A time of prayer for the people, and the body.
-
With tithes and offerings we seek to worship the Lord out of obedience, and with thankful hearts, by giving back a portion of what the Lord has given us.
-
The sermon is recognized to be the focal point of worship for any Bible believing, Christ honoring church. At New Sterling we believe the Bible to be the inspired and inerrant Word of God. Therefore, the sermon is generally centered on a consecutive, verse by verse exposition of the books of the Bible.
At New Sterling ARP we seek to preach the Bible, teach the Bible, and Believe the Bible. Our confession and catechisms insist that the Holy Spirit especially makes "...the preaching of the word an effectual means to evangelize the word, to extend the church, and to build up believers." (Westminster Larger Catechism #115)(2 Timothy 3:14-17)
-
God pronounces His blessing on His people as they go out to face the world and tell others about Christ.
